This exercise will serve as an opportunity for Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) members to assess current knowledge and capabilities associated with the various challenges of working in a Special Medical Needs Shelter.

During this exercise MRC leaders and members will be exposed to scenario information and injects that will challenge their ability to work within a shelter environment with partner agencies and organizations while meeting the needs of individuals with special medical needs.

Caduceus Shield Exercise Initiative

The Operation Compassionate Care – A Special Medical Needs Shelter Tabletop Exercise is part of the national Caduceus Shield Exercise Initiative.

Exercise Scenario

Several local Emergency Support Function (ESF) # 8 agencies responsible for operating the community’s Special Medical Needs Shelter have mobilized due to a recent disaster. The lead ESF # 8 organization has contact the MRC leadership requesting assistance in staffing the shelter with MRC members.

The MRC has agreed to help and begins to mobilize its membership.

Exercise Participation Information

Your Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) can participate in this exercise for $600.
For information about participating in this exercise please complete an Information Request Form. Upon completing the form you will be contacted and provided with additional information.

Participation Information
Special Medical Needs Shelter Register Now From a conference room or similar location via the ONX System as part of your organization’s Incident Management Team
* Everyone who will be participating in the exercise must register for the following reasons:
  1. Prior to the exercise important Read Ahead materials will be e-mailed to all registered participants. These materials are important to ensure your participation in the exercise is successful.
  2. At the end of the exercise only registered participants will be able to complete and submit their individual exercise evaluation (Hotwash).
  3. Only registered participants will be able to access and print their Certificate of Participation once they have submitted their individual exercise evaluation.
