To Whom It May Concern
The interactive online (ONX System) disaster exercises that Chris Floyd of Disaster Resistant Communities Group offers incorporates a wide range of exercises that will better prepare community based organizations serving seniors and people with disabilities for a local disaster. As an active participant in a number of these exercises Ability1st has had the opportunity to become part of the county’s “team” response to our most vulnerable citizens.
Ability1st is the Center for Independent Living of North Florida serving people with varying disabilities in a six county area around Tallahassee. Even though Ability1st has been in the community for over 30 years I feel that county emergency management and other first responders in this community gained a better understanding of the role we can play during our recent participation in the Hurricane Access exercise.
I would encourage other community based organizations serving seniors and people with disabilities to take time to get involved in these training opportunities BEFORE your community is hit with a disaster.
