This exercise served as an opportunity for Sarasota County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) members to assess current knowledge and capabilities associated with the various challenges of working in a Special Medical Needs Shelter.
During this exercise MRC leaders and members were exposed to scenario information and injects that challenged their ability to work within a shelter environment with partner agencies and organizations while meeting the needs of individuals with special medical needs.
Exercise Scenario
Several local Emergency Support Function (ESF) # 8 agencies responsible for operating the community’s Special Medical Needs Shelter have mobilized due to a recent disaster. The lead ESF # 8 organization has contact the MRC leadership requesting assistance in staffing the shelter with MRC members.
The MRC has agreed to help and begins to mobilize its membership.
Exercise Conclusion
The Operation Compassionate Care Exercise was held on the morning of February 2, 2014, at the Sarasota County Health Department in Sarasota Florida.
