Exercise Benefits / Facts
The Pike County Local Emergency Planning Committee undertook an initiative to design, conduct and evaluate an exercise entitled “Menacing Mist – A HazMat Response Tabletop Exercise”.
This exercise served as an opportunity for local response agencies and organizations to assess their capabilities with regards to responding to a hazardous materials incident within the county.
The exercise will focus on the following objectives:
- Resource Management
- Population Protective Actions
- Shelter Management
It is an unusually warm and humid June afternoon as a Community Action Transportation System (CATS) bus pulls out of the Waverly Plaza parking lot onto State Road 23 (East Emmitt Avenue) transporting a group of senior citizens back to the Pike County Senior Citizens Center following a “Get Out the Vote” rally at Waverly Plaza.
Meanwhile a chemical supply company’s delivery truck is traveling down the same street in the opposite direction.
Suddenly the truck driver grasps his chest in pain and slumps over the steering wheel. Within moments the truck collides with the CATS bus.
The Menacing Mist Tabletop Exercise was held in the morning of June 16, 2016, in Waverly Ohio.
