Exercise Benefits / Facts
The Santa Rosa County Emergency Management Office undertook an initiative to design, conduct and evaluate an exercise entitled “Hurricane Lay – An EOC Activation Exercise” as part of Florida’s 2013 statewide hurricane exercise.
This exercise served as an opportunity for emergency management to assess the capabilities of the various Emergency Support Function (ESF) Lead and Support agencies and organizations before, during and following a hurricane striking Santa Rosa County.
Area government officials, local business owners and area residents have been following the path of Hurricane Lay since it entered the Gulf of Mexico two days ago.
As the storm continues its northward movement agencies and organizations assigned roles within the Santa Rosa County CEMP begin to prepare themselves for the possibility of the storm making landfall within the region.
An Exercise Briefing video was produced to ensure that agencies and organizations (teams) and individual team members were ready to successfully partake in the exercise. This video provided valuable information regarding preparing for and participating in the exercise.

The Hurricane Lay Exercise was conducted on May 21 & 22, 2013, at locations throughout Santa Rosa County.
