The Southwest District Healthcare Coalition undertook an initiative to conduct an active shooter exercise designed to provide member agencies and organizations with the opportunity to assess current plans while gaining additional knowledge as to how to response to and recover from Active Shooter incident.

This exercise served as an opportunity for the management and staff that make up the coalition’s healthcare providers to work through scenario information and injects dealing with the numerous challenges associated with responding to and managing the consequences of a shooting incident.

Exercise Scenarios

It’s is late Friday afternoon in the emergency department with the hospital’s staff busily helping individuals needing medical attention.

Suddenly shots ring out and the voice of an angry man can be heard shouting “Where is Dr Thomas? He is responsible for the death of my wife and he is going to pay!”

The gun shots continue to be heard as the shooter moves from room to room looking for Dr Thomas.
