This series of exercises serves as an opportunity for individuals that make up your agency’s / organization’s Search and Rescue Team to work through scenario information and injects dealing with initiating and managing Search and Rescue Operations.

Each exercise focuses on the challenges associated with coordinating Search and Rescue Operations.

The primary purpose of each Gone Astray Exercise is to assist you in identifying strengths and areas needing improvement regarding your agency’s / organizations Search and Rescue Operations plans and procedures.

Exercise Scenarios

The scenarios for the Gone Astray exercise series include:

# 1: Adult Hiker – Eastern United States
# 2: Adult Hiker – Western United States
# 3: Adult with Dementia – Rural Area
# 4: Adult with Dementia – Urban Area
# 5: Child – 9 Year Old Girl – Rural Area
# 6: Child – Autistic – Rural Area

Each scenario has a full exercise devoted to the actions associated with managing Search and Rescue Operations.

Exercise Participation Information

Your community’s agencies and organizations responsible for debris management can participate in this exercise for $800.

* Everyone who will be participating in the exercise must register for the following reasons:
  1. Prior to the exercise important Read Ahead materials will be e-mailed to all registered participants. These materials are important to ensure your participation in the exercise is successful.
  2. At the end of the exercise only registered participants will be able to complete and submit their individual exercise evaluation (Hotwash).
  3. Only registered participants will be able to access and print their Certificate of Participation once they have submitted their individual exercise evaluation.
