Exercise Benefits / Facts
Springpoint Senior Living undertook an initiative to conduct an exercise to assess the capability of its residential communities to prepare for and respond to an Apartment Fire, a Severe Winter Storm and a Hazardous Materials Incident.
This exercise served as an opportunity for the management and staff from each of the participating communities to work through scenario information and injects dealing with the numerous challenges associated with the above scenarios.
Apartment Fire Vignette
At 11:19PM on Sunday a motorist driving past the community notices smoke coming from the window of an apartment. Using his cell phone the motorist immediately calls 911 to report a fire.
Within several minutes of notification the fire department arrives. Upon sizing up the scene and establishing an Incident Command firefighters begin to battle the conflagration that is consuming several apartments.
Severe Winter Storm Vignette
The Philadelphia / Mt Holly Office of the National Weather Service has just issued a Winter Storm Watch for all of New Jersey. A severe winter storm is predicted to move through the state within the next 12 to 36 hours.
As residents throughout the state begin to brace themselves for what is predicted to be a record setting sleet, freezing rain and snowfall the National Weather Service issues a Winter Storm Warning.
Hazardous Materials Incident Vignette
At 2:47PM on Tuesday a tanker truck traveling down the road in front of the community is cut off by a mini-van driven by a teenager who is busily texting a friend.
The tanker truck hits the mini-van then swerves into a ditch, tipping on its side and releasing its contents.
