The Utah Department of Health undertook an initiative to facilitate a functional exercise for the Northern Utah Healthcare Coalition.

This region-wide exercise provided an opportunity to coordinate patient medical surge and fatality management in the Northern Utah Healthcare Coalition following a plane crash at the Ogden, UT Airport.

During this exercise, coalition members and community partners worked together as a unified team to meet the challenges associated with a plane crash in the community.

Exercise Scenario

A Royal Airlines plane carrying 225 passengers and a crew of eight is diverted to the Central City Airport in Ogden, UT from the Salt Lake City International Airport due to thick fog.

As the plane approached runway 030 from the southwest, the landing gear failed to engage and crashed resulting in 113 fatalities and 120 people injured.

Exercise Conclusion

The Ogden ACE Functional Exercise was conducted on May 29, 2013, at the Weber County Sheriff’s Office – Emergency Operations Center in Ogden Utah.
