Exercise Overview

Exercise Benefits / Facts

The Kern Community College District undertook an initiative to conduct a series of active shooter response exercises. Entitled “Academic Adversity” the exercises were conducted at Bakersfield College, Cerro Coso College and Porterville College.

This exercise served as an opportunity for the management and staff that make up each colleges Incident Command Team along with the college’s community response agencies to work through scenario information and injects dealing with an active shooter incident occurring on campus.

Exercise Scenario

At 9:13AM, a call comes into Campus Security reporting that a student has seen a “suspicious” man with an “overloaded” backpack walking towards one of the main classroom buildings.

At 9:18AM, multiple calls begin to come into Campus Security about hearing gun shots in one of the classroom buildings.
